Justin Bieber : the pressure to cancel his Saudi Arabia concert are getting strong

Justin Bieber : his appearance in Saudi Arabia contested

Four years ago, on the 2nd of October 2018, Jamal Khashoggi was assassinated inside the Saudi Arabia embassy in Turkey. His body was never to be found. The news had the whole world scandalized. Prince Mohammed Bin Salam said that he had not mandated the killing, but new intelligence seems to say otherwise. Jamal Khashoggi was a journalist and fierce contestant of the power. His fiancée is still battling to this day to get the truth on the assassination, and to free people that are jailed because of their opinion in the country.

Hence, the news of Justin Bieber performing for the Prince has created quite a backlash. He is supposed to perform just ahead of his massive World Tour, with the likes of David Guetta, A$AP Rocky, Tiesto, and Jason Derulo. So far, the Canadian superstar didn’t communicate on whether he will participate in the event.

Justin Bieber is not the first artist contested

Since 2018, a few artists have been in the same spot as Justin Bieber. Mariah Carey decided to keep performing. Nicki Minaj decided to cancel her appearance in Saudi Arabia due to the pressure of her fans. She stated through The Associated Press that she wanted to “show support for women’s rights, gay rights and freedom of expression.”.

The situation may be trickier for The Biebs. Indeed, Saudi Arabia has extensively invested in Live Nation, the company that produces his World Tour. After a year and a half of Lockdown, the company was going towards bankruptcy. Saudi Arabia invested $1.4 billion, making it the second largest institutional holder in the company. Chances are, Justin Bieber will have to perform there, whether he likes it or not
