Blur bassist Alex James says new music could be just around the corner, or not!

“I never know what’s going to happen” say Alex James about new Blur music

Blur’s bassist spoke to Steve Lamacq on BBC 6Music a few days ago, on November 14. Drummer Dave Rowntree was with him and the two discussed the recent news of Blur’s reunion for a one-off huge Wembley concert next summer (see below).

“I can’t imagine that you won’t write or record something because I just can’t imagine you in a room with Damon Albarn and not coming up with something new because he just can’t let it go. He has to write, doesn’t he?” Asked Steve Lamarcq. “I literally never know what’s going to happen next with Damon,” James replied. “It might be the last show, it might [lead to] a new album. It’s part of the fun of it, I literally never know what’s going to happen.”

“It’s part of the terror of being in Blur,” added Rowntree. The pair also talked in more detail about the upcoming Wembley gig. “We’ve been trying to get something happening for some time, but we were thwarted by Covid as much as anything else, the hangover from Covid, because all the venues have been booked up for God knows how long,”
